Trauma Healing Process program
Facing a traumatic event, we get stuck. Living in a place of war, being queer, a person of colour, an immigrant or less privileged means an additional layer of discrimination, oppression and lack of opportunities, another level of destruction to the ‘space’ , internal and external. The refuge space becomes a space of persecution and oppression. Therefore, in this program , participants will ask the question of: ‘Then, what about me? what about home?’ by exploring the chaotic rhythm of trauma to reconstruct and regulate their internal rhythm through the 5 Rhythm Dance and other body focused techniques.
Playback Theatre training
Participants acquire knowledge and practice in Playback Theatre (history, principles, applications, forms). They develop their skills in active listening, collaboration, improvisation, and empathy in an environment that promotes playfulness, creativity, teamwork, reflection, self-discovery, critical thinking. During the process, social issues are addressed and new insights, perspectives and emotions may be produced. Through this training, the Playback Theatre rituals and communal safe space generate dialogue, build community relationships, foster a sense of connection and create a culture of social inclusion.
Playback Theatre performances
SADA Playback Theatre performs online and in-person, in community centres, art centres and other facilities, to the general public and to specific community groups, where individuals can listen to others’ stories and tell their own. In this safe space, a “red thread” of common experiences is created, building and strengthening audience members’ connections to one another as a community, thereby establishing a space of openness, understanding, and empathy.
Selfcare process through Storytelling workshop “Listening Hour”
Participants increase their ability to craft life events into stories (through self-discovery activities), they acquire performance skills and ultimately are able to express themselves by sharing personal narratives ranging from serious stories to lighter subjects. By providing a space for community members to explore inner narratives, Storytelling promotes intercultural understanding and communal connections through the dialogue it forges.
Selfcare process through Dance and Movement workshop
Participants increase their ability to express and communicate their thoughts, emotions and ideas, in an artistic and creative manner. This stems from our belief that people who are given the opportunities to creatively and freely express themselves become better equipped to deal with their various feelings and navigate their lives, and from our conviction that self-expression fosters self-examination and self-discovery, increases emotional well-being and weaves bridges amongst community members.
Self-expression process through Applied Drama workshop
Participants increase their ability to express and communicate their personal experiences and ask their questions about the world using theatre. Our view is that theatre is a medium for self-expression which is a vital way for community members to communicate with each other. Theatre allows them to bring forth unique portrayals where participants bring a bit of self to the role. Self-expression gained through theatre can transform the way participants see themselves as well as the way they interact with one another. It can lead to greater self-confidence, understanding of self and connection with the world.
Active Citizen Process program
The notion of the ‘citizen actor’ is very much part of the Playback world and implies that anyone has the natural capacity to perform Playback Theatre in a satisfying way. Playback Theatre challenges the actors to listen, allow intuition and inspiration to arise, trust and support each other, and to call upon their innate personal wisdom and experience. In this sense, this program is designed to bring ‘citizens’ from the community to work collaboratively with SADA actors on developing greater personal awareness, and self-understanding. Aiming to transform the citizens to citizens ‘actors’. Actors for change.
